Getting Voicemail Messages by Phone
You can access your e-mail and your voicemail by phone.
You'll know you have new voicemail messages when you dial the AOL® Voicemail access number (1-800-AOL-1234) and hear "You've got voicemail." If you're using your registered phone, simply dial your registered phone number to check for messages.
Some users will receive the Message Waiting Indicator (MWI) phone feature with AOL Voicemail. If you have MWI and have a message:
- You will hear an interrupted dial tone (a series of short, separate tones) when you pick up your telephone receiver.
- You will see a flashing light on your phone (if your phone has this feature).
To get messages when calling from your registered phone:
- Dial your registered phone number.
- Follow the prompts for easy retrieval.
To get messages on the go:
- Dial 1-800-265-1234 (1-800-AOL-1234).
- Follow the prompts for easy retrieval.
Tips:
- You will be prompted for a PIN for security purposes. Find out about Master and Voicemail PINs.
- You can speak your commands or enter your choice on your dialpad. If you're speaking your commands, make sure you are in a quiet area as background noise will sometimes interfere with the system. If you are in a noisy area, you can turn off the speech recognition by pressing ##. Reactivate it by pressing ## again.
- When you're finished listening to messages and want to go back to the Main Menu to do something else just hit **.
Log in Faster With Quick Login and Bypass PIN
When you call 1-800-AOL-1234 and you're not at home you'll be asked to enter your registered phone number and PIN. If you call to check your voicemail messages frequently from a particular phone (e.g. your mobile phone or work phone), make it a Quick Login number. As long as the system can read the Caller ID from that phone, you won't need to enter your registered number. You can also bypass the PIN step, by choosing that option on the Quick Login set-up page on your AOL Voicemail dashboard. Note: your PIN provides e-mail security, so only set up the bypass PIN feature on phones that are solely within your control.
To add or delete an Express Number:
- Go to your Dashboard.
- Click "Settings" and then click "Express Numbers".
- Enter the phone number(s) and a short description.
- Click "Save".
